No one in their right mind would pay $1400 for a 15 year old Savage with an engine that may be shot. You would be lucky to get that much if it was working fine this time of year in the People's Republic of Oregon. I suggest you find a mechanic who will check out the engine for a minimal fee and tell you what it requires, preferably not a dealership. Try to locate a small independent shop, you will get more information and they are less likely to try to screw you.
